The carpenters sent from Hida province for the construction of the capital city during the Nara period were called “Craftsmen in Hida”.
They were involved in the construction of shrines and temples such as Yakushi-ji temple, Hall of Dreams in Horyu-ji temple, Todai-ji temple and contributed to the construction of Heijo-kyo capital and Heian-kyo capital. Their craftsmanship has been handed down to the present day and is used in the woodworking industry in Hida-Takayama.
